Statistics: Russia’s poor population rises 1.5% in 2016

MOSCOW, Apr 5 (PRIME) -- The number of people whose income is below Russia’s living wage grew 1.5% on the year to 19.8 million people in 2016, or 13.5% of the country’s total population, the Federal State Statistics Service said on Wednesday.

In October–December 2016, the number of poor people fell to 14.8 million people from 18.8 million people in July–September 2016.

The monthly living wage for October–December decreased by 2% on the quarter for employable citizens to 10,466 rubles, for pensioners it fell 1.7% to 8,000 rubles, and for children the figure went down 2.4% to 9,434 rubles.

The cost of the market basket’s foods stood at 4,521 rubles, while the cost of non-food goods and services amounted to 2,252 rubles, the service said.
